Adverse/Inclement Weather (Service Closings and Delays)


Greenway Public Transportation will not operate vehicles when there are unsafe road conditions. Greenway’s first concern is for the safety of its riders and employees. While every effort will be made to operate vehicles according to published schedules, weather conditions may cause roads to be unsafe or impassable.

While every effort will be made to operate vehicles according to published schedules, weather conditions may cause roads to be unsafe or impassable.


The following guidelines apply for Demand Response (Van/Flex Service) and Fixed Route Bus/ADA Complementary Paratransit Service when there are unsafe road conditions.


Dial-A-Ride Service (Demand Response, Van/Flex Service):


Dial-A-Ride Van/Flex Service in the counties of Alexander, Burke, Caldwell, and Catawba, Greenway will generally follow the lead of the county school bus service to determine service schedules. If school bus service is delayed in the morning, closes early, or is cancelled for the day, Greenway service may also be delayed, closed early, or cancelled if deemed appropriate to do so by Greenway. If inclement weather occurs when schools are not in session, Greenway will base its operating decision on general weather and road condition information. The ADA Complementary Paratransit Service delays and closings will follow the Fixed Route Service schedule outlined below. The following guidelines will be in effect for 1 HR, 2 HR, and 3 HR service delays, early closings, and cancelled service:


1 HR Delay: Dial-A-Ride Service will start at 8:00 AM, trips prior to 8:00 AM are cancelled.

Taylorsville Flex Route operates on a normal schedule.


2 HR Delay: Dial-A-Ride Service will start at 9:00 AM, trips prior to 9:00 AM are cancelled.

Taylorsville Flex Route operates on a normal schedule.


3 HR Delay: Dial-A-Ride Service will start at 10:00 AM, trips prior to 10:00 AM are cancelled.

TaylorsvilleFlex Route operates on a normal schedule.


Early Closings: Early closing times will be posted in the media outlets listed above. All Dial-A-Ride service scheduled after the posted closing time is cancelled and no additional service for the day will be provided.


Cancelled: All passenger trips are cancelled for Demand Response (Van/Flex Service) and Fixed Route Bus/ADA Complementary Paratransit Service. No service will be provided.


Fixed Route Bus Service and ADA Complementary Paratransit Service:


Fixed Route Bus Service and ADA Complementary Paratransit Service in the cities of Conover, Hickory and Newton will follow the lead of the Catawba County school bus service. If school bus service is delayed in the morning, or is cancelled for the day, or closes early, then Greenway service provided on weekdays may also be delayed or cancelled if deemed appropriate to do so by the Operations Director. Bus service will be curtailed only in those areas, or time periods that roads are unsafe or impassable. The following guidelines will be in effect for 1 HR, 2 HR, and 3 HR service delays, early closings, and cancelled service. The following adverse weather guidelines for Fixed Route Bus Service and ADA Complementary Paratransit Service, is outlined by Weekday and Saturday service:


Weekday Service: Definitions

1 HR Delay: Bus service and ADA Complementary Paratransit Service will start at 7:50 AM. All bus service prior to this time is cancelled.


2 HR Delay: Bus service and ADA Complementary Paratransit Service will start at 8:50 AM. All bus service prior to this time is cancelled.


3 HR Delay: Bus service and ADA Complementary Paratransit Service will start at 9:50 AM. All bus service prior to this time is cancelled. No service will be provided.


Early closings: Early closing times will be posted in the media outlets listed above. All bus service and ADA Complementary Paratransit Service after the posted closing time is cancelled and no additional service for the day will be provided.

Saturday Service: Definitions

1 HR Delay: Bus service and ADA Complementary Paratransit Service will start at 9:50 AM. All bus service prior to this time is cancelled.


2 HR Delay: Bus service and ADA Complementary Paratransit Service will start at 10:50 AM. All bus service prior to this time is cancelled.


3 HR Delay: Bus service and ADA Complementary Paratransit Service will start at 11:50 PM. All bus service prior to this time is cancelled.


Early closings: Early closing times will be posted in the media outlets listed above. All bus service and ADA Complementary Paratransit Service after the posted closing time is cancelled and no additional service for the day will be provided.


Cancelled: All passenger trips are cancelled for Demand Response (Van/Flex Service) and Fixed Route Bus/ADA Complementary Paratransit Service. No service will be provided.
