Welcome to Greenway Public Transportation

Greenway provides Fixed Route transportation service in the cities of Conover, Hickory, and Newton,

Flex Route service in the Town of Taylorsville and in Burke County (Morganton, Drexel, Valdese, Rutherford College),

and Demand Response Service in the counties of Alexander, Burke, Caldwell, and Catawba.

Mayor Ride Alongs in the City of Morganton and the City of Hickory:

Join Honorable Mayors Mr. Hank Guess (Hickory) on 7/19 and Honorable Mr. Ronnie Thompson (Morganton) on 7/25

as each embarks on a public transit ride-along on fixed or flex bus routes in their respective cities.

Both will discuss the importance of public transit, share community stories about local landmarks as we pass by,

and give updates on exciting developments like City Walk in Hickory or NCSSM in Morganton.

Mr. James Estes, a regional representative of Senator Thom Tillis,

will join Mayor Guess in Hickory on 7/19 to discuss mass transit federally.

Burke Flex Route Bus Stops and Fare Change

Public Hearing Notice

July 18, 2019

This is to inform the public that a public hearing will be held to consider comments on the following Greenway Public Transportation Burke Flex Route and system wide fare change. The public hearing will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at 10:00 AM before the Western Piedmont Regional Transit Authority Board of Directors at 1515 4th St. SW, Conover, NC  28613.

BACKGROUND

Burke Flex Changes:

Greenway staff proposes the final bus stops for the Burke Flex Route located in Morganton, Drexel, Valdese, and Rutherford College.  The full list of bus stops is located at mygreenway.org or by contacting Aaron Kohrs at akohrs@wprta.org or 828.578.2732.

Fare Change:

Greenway staff recommends adding a student pass for $100/semester for persons attending school.  A different pass would be sold for each semester.  To purchase the pass a student would show their current student ID at the time of purchase.

5307 Grant:

(FTA) 5307 Grant for Western Piedmont Regional Transit Authority for the urban transportation program for fiscal year 2019 (July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019) in the amount of $2,950,750.

WPRTA staff is applying for funding in FY 2019 5307 for Operating Assistance, Preventive Maintenance (PM), ADA Complementary Paratransit Service (ADA), planning, Mobility Manager, and Other Capital in the amount of $2,950,750.  One grant is only for Preventive Maintenance in the amount of $417,500 and the second grant is for Operating Assistance, Preventive Maintenance, ADA Complementary Paratransit Service, Planning, Mobility Manager and other capital in the amount of $2,533,250.

The WPRTA 2019 5307 program of projects is from July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019.

5310 Grant:

(FTA) 5310 Grant for Western Piedmont Regional Transit Authority for the Enhanced Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities grant for fiscal year 2020 (July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020) in the amount of $323,708.

The 5310 funding appropriation for the FFY 2017 is $227,824 ($228,309 - $485.00 reduced from prior appropriation).  WPRTA requests the addition of four projects listed below:

In accordance with Federal requirements, a public hearing is scheduled for July 18, 2019 to allow the public to provide written and oral comment on the changes.  Written comments should be directed to Camille Sterling, P.O. Box 459, SW, Conover, NC  28613 before July 16, 2019 or by calling 828-465-7642.

DBE Goal:
